Role Summary

We are striving to deliver excellence in patient care and management and are looking for a highly motivated full-time Audiologist to complement our Audiology Team.

A substantive post has become available to be a clinician within the paediatric audiology service in Audiology UHS-Brighton. This is based in our new, state-of-the-art paediatric department, providing specialist advice for patients with deafness, vestibular conditions, tinnitus and auditory processing disorder.

The successful candidate should be flexible, possess excellent organisational and communication skills and provide a professional service in this varied and challenging role. Responsibilities will be in the paediatric team; however, we work closely with the adult team and the successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with both teams. Working on their own initiative combined with the ability to prioritise changing workloads is a must. This role will be supported by a large team of colleagues and a clear management and training structure.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
To provide paediatric audiological assessment and appropriate management interventions for children within the local area.

  • To work collaboratively as part of a team and to make autonomous decisions when working alone.
  • To provide complex and sensitive advice to families regarding their child’s hearing. Such advice might be delivered within an emotive atmosphere. To develop and advise on interventions and (re)habilitation programmes based upon autonomous clinical opinion, which may involve referral onwards to relevant intervention programmes.
  • To be able to communicate with other professionals effectively to achieve a clear multi-disciplinary approach for the patient. This may involve other health professionals, education services or social services.
  • Responsible for working within the paediatric team to deliver the clinical direction of the service, seeing children and young adults in single and joint clinician clinics, within the boundaries set by the Head of Audiology. Some of this clinical work to include lone working at off sites.
  • To be aware of the referral-to-treatment position and DNA rates of the paediatric team and ensure that the team leads are appraised of threats to breaching.
  • Contributes to the continuous development of verification and validation methods.
  • Active contributor to audit, development and research programmes in Audiology for UHS. Maintenance of own audit activity as requirement for continued registration with regulatory bodies.

Possibility of working within the adult team, depending on service needs.
