The British Society of Otology has developed new guidance on microsuction of the ear in order to help with maintaining clinical standards in the NHS and in the private sector.

It provides a summary of the indications and risks of the procedure, makes recommendations about who should carry out microsuction and where it should be performed, as well as providing guidance regarding the required training to ensure it is undertaken safely. It also describes what patients can expect during the procedure, and has an associated patient information leaflet that patients can be shown prior to microsuction, so that they have a clear understanding of what to expect.

The new guidance is published by ENT UK and is available to download here: Clinical Guidance on Microsuction
