As the NHS looks to the future, healthcare scientists will be working at the cutting edge of existing health technologies and actively helping to shape the development of future tools, diagnostics, devices and therapies to transform health and social care.
The Healthcare Science Awards, now in their 14th year, celebrates the tremendous contributions and achievements of the healthcare science workforce and the impact they have on patient outcomes, by championing inspiring case studies of quality improvement, innovative partnerships and pioneering service delivery.
We reserve the right to remove any of the award categories if not enough applications are received.
Healthcare Scientist of the Year
This award will celebrate an exceptional individual who has continually championed healthcare science to transform patient care and improve outcomes. The healthcare scientist of the year will be an exemplar to others in their contribution beyond the boundaries of their service across service delivery, training and development, engagement and collaboration, innovation and partnerships.
CSO Shirley Fletcher Apprenticeship Award
At a time when the NHS is facing one of its biggest workforce challenges ever, apprenticeships are an important opportunity for employers to provide an effective means of developing the skills of their workforce to order to deliver a safe and efficient health service to their communities. Healthcare Science has long recognised the benefits of training apprentices for the HCS support workforce.
The Shirley Fletcher CSO Apprenticeship Award has been established to recognise and commemorate her significant contribution to this work. The judges will be looking for apprentices who have shown a passion and commitment for healthcare science, demonstrating an ability to engage with learning whilst in employment, with a particular focus on patient-centred care and the contribution of science to health.
Excellence in Healthcare Science
Collaborations and partnerships across industry, academia, research teams and the wider NHS are critical for transforming services, improving outcomes and reducing costs. The judges are looking for healthcare scientists who have undertaken ground-breaking translational scientific work and established strong collaborations for innovation and enterprise to make a real difference in patient care
Healthcare Science Rising Star
The calibre of individuals at the earlier stages of their careers in healthcare science has never been greater with training programmes continuing to attract some of the best and brightest into the NHS. This award celebrates those healthcare scientists in the early stages of their career who are already demonstrating how much healthcare science can bring to transforming care pathways and service development. Our judges are looking for individuals who are already performing highly in their given area and show signs of greater things to come. Particular credit will be given to those showing a clear vision and demonstrating the impact of their work
Excellence in Healthcare Delivery
Implementation of advances in science and technology is the building block for delivering the healthcare science services of the future. This award recognises teams or individuals that are already successfully using advances in science and technology to improve the lives of patients, carers or staff. The judges will be looking for service transformation that has addressed a previously unmet need and made a real difference to patient care.
