I am a current Trainee Clinical Scientist in Audiology working at Sheffield NHS Trust. I am due to complete the Scientist Training Programme (STP) in 2021. Before training in audiology I completed a BSc in Biochemistry and have experience working in rehabilitation of elderly patients and vulnerable adults with acquired brain injuries.
My passion for equality and inclusion has led to the formation of the BAME Scientist Trainee Network (BSTN) which works towards improved support for trainees with protected characteristics, transparent monitoring of ethnicity data and curriculum reforms that address health inequalities.
I hope to bring my experience as a relatively new member of the profession to advocate for more equitable access to training opportunities and support. I believe that the fundamentals of audiology – giving people the knowledge, tools and opportunity to achieve their goals – can easily be applied to improving equality and inclusion for new, prospective, and established, colleagues within our profession.
