Short & Karyn Galvin  \nThis paper investigates adult clients’ perspectives on the barriers and facilitators they experience when communicating about their listening needs and concerns with their audiologist during appointments. Through qualitative interviews with adults who have attended audiology consultations\, it identifies key factors\, such as the audiologist’s communication style\, demonstration of understanding\, therapeutic relationship\, clients’ awareness and personality\, and clinic operational practices\, that influence whether clients feel able to express their listening difficulties and concerns effectively.

It examines whether compression speed influences subjective preference\, objective speech understanding in quiet and noise\, and whether factors such as degree of hearing loss\, cognitive ability or prior hearing aid experience predict these preferences.
