SUMMARY:AURAL CARE COURSE - North West School of Audiology
DESCRIPTION:Wax removal using microsuction\, irrigation and tools \nAccredited by the British Society of Audiology \n \n  \n  \nFriday 19th  and Saturday 20th June 2026 \nWhat this course covers \n\nReview of anatomy and physiology of the ear.\nOtoscopy to identify ear conditions including types of  cerumen\, infections and other conditions affecting the structure and function of the outer and middle ear.\nEquipment and infection control\nSafe removal of cerumen and other objects from the ear canal\nPractical sessions using otoscope\, head loupe\, microscope\, endoscope\, microsuction\, portable suction\, water irrigation\, curettes\, Jobson-Horne\, forceps and other tools.\nSetting up a wax removal service\n\n \n  \n  \n  \n  \nThis will be delivered by \n\nWax Removal Consultants\,\nAural Care Nurse\nAudiology advanced practitioners\n\nLocation: The venue for the course will take place in the Audiology Department\, Withington Community Hospital\, Nell Lane\, West Didsbury\, Manchester\, M20 2LR\, \nThis is South Manchester and is easily accessible by road and public transport. \nThere is a Premier Inn within half a mile of the venue. \nCourse cost will be £695 for the 2 days and there is a limit of 12 participants to ensure practical session time. \nRequirement of attending the course is Audiology qualification with a minimum of one year post qualification clinical experience. \nYou will be expected to gain competencies following the course under supervision. DESCRIPTION:The course is designed for all clinicians with an interest in the assessment and management of children with dizziness who have some basic knowledge of vestibular assessment and rehab in adults. \n\n\nCourse date\n24 June – 26 June 2026 \nOverview \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe course is designed for all those clinicians who have a basic knowledge of vestibular assessment and rehabilitation as applied to adults but are looking to build on this foundation and develop their interest and skills in the assessment and management of children with dizziness. \nDelegates will be provided with a pre-course reading list and presentations\, which will maximise their learning opportunities during the course. Seminar-style\, interactive teaching is supplemented by: \n\ngroup exercises and class discussion\npractical demonstrations including videos\ncase studies\nself-directed reading and pre-reading around current structure and practice in paediatric audiology services\n\nLearning outcomes\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFollowing this course\, you will: \n\nUnderstand the functional anatomy and physiology of the vestibular system and development of normal balance function in children and common motor milestones.\nHave a knowledge of common peripheral and central causes of dizziness in children.\nUnderstand the value and implementation of patient and parent centred interviews.\nHave a knowledge of non-vestibular causes of dizziness\, role and value of non-audiological tests and genetics of vestibular disorders.\nUnderstand the value of the medical management of the dizzy child.\nKnow how to carry out a range of clinical tests of balance including: – eye movement assessments\, clinical tests of the vestibular ocular reflex\, gait\, static and dynamic equilibrium\, positioning tests.\nDevelop skills in the management of BPPV.\nHave knowledge of the physiotherapist approach in the assessment of the dizzy child.\nUnderstand how objective balance assessments should be modified when testing children.\nDevelop skills in carrying out VEMPs and VHIT in children.\nDevelop skills in the application of vestibular rehabilitation in children.\n\n\n\n\n Certificate\n\n\n\n\nYou’ll receive a certificate of attendance if you attend all three days. \nCost \n\n\n\n\n\n\n£730 (three days) \nThe Paediatric Assessment masterclass can only be booked as a full course (i.e. there will be no 1 day\, 2 day etc options). \nFor direct payments (by card) \nPlaces can be booked by credit/debit card up to 48 hours before the start of the course\, subject to availability. \nFor payments by invoice \nTo secure a place\, a purchase order document must be received within 7 working days of the course start date. \nBooking \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBook your place
