SUMMARY:North West School of Audiology - Audiology Assistant Basic Certificate Course
DESCRIPTION:North West School of Audiology – Audiology Assistant Basic Certificate Course \nCommencing September 2025 \nThe course aims to provide the underpinning knowledge and understanding that is required by an Audiology Assistant and Dispensing Assistant. \n(NHS Agenda for change pay band 2 or 3 staff/ Apprenticeship levels 2 or 3) \nThis course is BSA accredited for Audiometry and Tympanometry\, and Otoscopy and impression taking (over 5 years) and certificates are awarded on successful completion of the practical exams. \nThe Course will be held at Trafford Hospital\, Manchester on the following months \n\n  September\n  October\n  December\n  January\n  February\n\nThe course covers the following:              \n\nAnatomy\, physiology\, and pathology of the ear.\nAcoustics\, causes and disability of hearing loss\, tinnitus.\nAudiometry and diagnostic tests of hearing including tympanometry.\nHearing devices and technology\, rehabilitation\, servicing\, and repairs\, hearing aid programming and troubleshooting\, otoscopy and impression taking.\nRevision day\, plus a day of theoretical and practical exams\n\nThe total cost of this course is £1800\, this includes theoretical and practical assessments. \nFor candidates who wish to attend selected days or specific modules only\, please contact us for costs. \nThe practical assessment can be taken the following year if needed.  Any previous course attendees can apply to take the practical assessment following completion of the workbook. DESCRIPTION:This five-day course covers the theory and practice of hearing assessment in infants and children as the basis for appropriate audiological management. \n\n\nCourse date\n\nThursday 22 January 2026\nThursday 29 January 2026\nThursday 5 February 2026\nThursday 12 February 2026\nThursday 19 February 2026 (for assessment)\n\nOverview\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe course combines theoretical evidence with practical knowledge and skills which you’ll be able to apply immediately in whatever clinical setting you work in. You’ll also have an opportunity to network with a range of professionals from different backgrounds. The course is updated annually to reflect the latest trends in technology and clinical practice. \nWho this course is for: \n\nAudiologists\nTeachers of the deaf and educational audiologists\nSpeech and language therapists\nGeneral practitioners with a special interest in audiology\nAudiovestibular doctors and other health professionals\n\nYou should have previous knowledge and experience in general audiology. \nCourse themes \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCognitive and behavioural development of infancy and childhood\nObjective hearing tests in infants and children\nSubjective hearing tests in infants and children\nPivotal role of the family in communication development in infants and children\nRoles and remit of the audiologist and others within a reciprocal team for early assessment and intervention built around the individual child and family\n\nTeaching structure \nThe course will run on five consecutive Thursdays. Seminar-style\, interactive teaching is supplemented by: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\ngroup exercises and class discussion\npractical demonstrations using videos\ncase-studies\nself-directed reading and pre-reading around current structure and practice in paediatric audiology services\n\nThis course has lectures and seminars given by experienced paediatric audiology clinicians and other professionals using real case examples. \nLearning outcomes \n\n\n\n\n\n\nFollowing this course you’ll be able to: \n\nUnderstand the principles behind newborn hearing screen and early intervention for neural plasticity\nOptimise the auditory potential for lifelong communication and social integration\nEstablish skills in behavioural and objective methods of hearing assessment in infants and children as the basis for appropriate audiological management\nIntegrate speech-based assessments into the protocols for evaluating hearing\nDevelop coherence in the roles of all professionals in the paediatric audiology team\nAssess and address the hearing needs of the child within her/his family context\nIntroduce a culture of reflective practice\, service evaluation and professional learning\n\nCertificate and accreditation \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou’ll receive a certificate of attendance if you attend all five days.\nThis course is suitable for British Academy of Audiology Higher Training Scheme candidates undertaking the Paediatric Assessment Newborn module and the Paediatric Assessment 6 month+ module.\n\nCost \n\n\n\n\n\n\n£730 without assessments; £1\,333 with assessments \nThe Paediatric Assessment masterclass can only be booked as a full course (i.e. there will be no 1 day\, 2 day etc options). \nFor direct payments (by card) \nPlaces can be booked by credit/debit card up to 48 hours before the start of the course\, subject to availability. \nFor payments by invoice \nTo secure a place\, a purchase order document must be received within 7 working days of the course start date. \n\n\n\n\nBooking \n\n\nBook your place – Standard pathway \nBook your place – Assessment pathway
