SUMMARY:Auditory Processing and Related Disorders
DESCRIPTION:Auditory Processing and Related Disorders (only 11 places available) \nThis two-day masterclass provides an in-depth update on the current scientific understanding of auditory processing and related disorders (APD)\, language\, cognition and their interaction. \n\n\n\n\n\nCourse date \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTuesday 10 March – Wednesday 11 March 2026 \nOverview \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis two-day masterclass provides an in-depth update on the current scientific understanding of auditory processing disorders (APD)\, language\, cognition and their interaction across the age spectrum. \nYou’ll learn about: \n\nthe scientific principles of auditory neuroscience\ncurrent clinical diagnostic and management approaches for auditory processing disorders\n\nThis is a multidisciplinary course\, taught by clinician researchers and auditory neuroscience academic researchers. . \nWho this course is for: \n\nAudiologists and audiology assistants\nHearing therapists\nAudiology students\nTeachers of the deaf\nSpeech and language therapists\nGeneral practitioners with a special interest in audiology\nAudiovestibular doctors and other health professionals\nOther health professionals with an interest in hearing and cognition\n\nYou should have some basic knowledge in audiology. \n\n\n\n\nCourse organiser \n\n\n\nProf Doris-Eve Bamiou\, UCL Ear Institute\n\nCourse themes\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe course covers a wide range of topics including \n\nthe anatomy and physiology of the peripheral and central auditory pathways\nthe definition of auditory processing disorders (APD) and controversies\nclinical presentations of APD in adults and children and the interplay of auditory processing\, cognition and language\ndiagnostic considerations for APD including its differential diagnosis from auditory neuropathy spectrum disorders\, developmental and/or cognitive disorders\ncurrent test batteries for assessment of different cohorts of patients with APD (e.g. the child with developmental disorders; dementia paitents)\nmultidisciplinary management of individuals with APD and with or without other hearing impairment\, cognitive or developmental disorders in adults and children with APD\nresearch tests in development\nelectrophysiological tests for auditory processing\nusing auditory devices and training programmes in the management of APD\n\nSeminar style\, interactive teaching is supplemented by: \n\nGroup exercises and class discussion\nCase studies\nSelf-directed reading and pre-reading around current structure and practice in auditory processing disorder services\n\nThe course is led by Professor Doris Bamiou and Dr Peter Keating\, with lectures and seminars from experienced academics and clinicians. All materials will be available via the dedicated course page on UCLExtend. \nLearning outcomes \n\n\n\n\n\n\nFollowing this course\, you will: \n\nBe able to obtain a history of individuals suspected of APD\nBe able to choose effective tests and other assessment strategies for individuals suspected of APD\nBe able to consider differential diagnoses and recognise the need for multidisciplinary assessment\nBe able to formulate a management approach for APD\nRecognise current limitations and controversies in the field of APD\n\nCourse schedule \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see the schedule for the 2026 here. \nCertificate \n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou’ll receive a certificate of attendance for completion of this masterclass. \nCost\n\n\n\n\n\nCost: £730 \nFor direct payments (by card) \nPlaces can be booked by credit/debit card up to 48 hours before the start of the course\, subject to availability. \nFor payments by invoice \nTo secure a place\, a purchase order document must be received within 7 working days of the course start date. \n\n\n\n\nBook your place
