This training webinar is designed for Audiologists, who either carry out assessments on babies referred from the Newborn Hearing Screening Programme (NHSP) or assess infants with a permanent childhood hearing impairment (PCHI).

The national NHSP screening IT system (S4H) is designed to contain data relating to all babies offered the newborn hearing screen and their subsequent follow up including audiology testing, interventions, and aetiology investigations.

Provision of this detail for all babies in England with a permanent childhood hearing impairment (PCHI) identified by the screening programme, or those with a later identified PCHI, helps;

  • Provide assurance that babies referred from the screen complete the screening pathway, including attendance in audiology and any subsequent diagnosis/intervention
  • Identify trends through audit that support future planning for children in England
  • Enable assessment of the effectiveness of the screening programme

Through data quality activities carried out by the national NHSP team, including COVID restoration work, a training need has been identified to ensure accurate and timely data is entered into the S4H post screen.

The training aims to;

  • Establish the roles and responsibilities of the audiologist as part of the screening pathway
  • Highlight data entry requirements for audiologists
  • Demonstrate how to enter data and use S4H effectively for those babies identified from the hearing screen and cases of later identified PCHI
  • Share the tools available to ensure that data entered onto S4H is of high quality
  • Demonstrate how S4H can assist with local audits

Presenters for this webinar are Catherine Magee and Hannah Garnett, National Programme Manager – NHS Newborn Hearing Screening Programme
