Head of Audiology – York and Scarborough Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation trust
I started in Audiology in 1987 as a student audiologist at East Birmingham Hospital (Birmingham Heartlands Hospital). Following on from my BAAT part I and II and BTEC/HTEC in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement, I was fortunate to access the BSc in Health Sciences at Coventry University. I then moved to York Hospital in 1996. In 2000 I was fortunate to be sponsored to complete my MSc in Audiological Science at Manchester University and then on to complete my Certificate of Audiological Competence. The latter being supported by a secondment to Sunderland Hospital.
I became Head of Audiology for York Scarborough and Harrogate in 2012.
Geographically we cover a large area and recruitment to some sites has been particularly difficult. With the advent of apprenticeships, I recognised an opportunity to develop our workforce.
We have Level 2, level 5 and 7 apprenticeships. I am proactive around training as development of all staff will help to sustain the future of Audiology.
