Board Lead for Membership
The BAA Membership Secretary is the member of the BAA Board, responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of the Academy’s membership activities. Acting as a spokesperson for the BAA, the Membership Secretary works to promote membership growth, ensure member engagement, and support the delivery of benefits that reflect the needs of the profession. This role involves collaboration with the Vice President and the Marketing & Communications Manager to enhance membership value, drive recruitment and retention, and promote equality, diversity, and inclusion throughout the organisation. The Membership Secretary also serves as Master of Ceremonies at the BAA Annual General Meeting and plays a key role in reviewing membership trends and contributing to the Academy’s strategic direction.
Membership Board Lead Objectives
Objective 1: Strengthen membership processes and experience
Supporting Actions
- Review and improve the full membership registration and renewal process with CJAM
- Improve accessibility throughout all membership pathways and digital processes.
- Lead delivery of the BAA Membership Survey to better understand member needs and value proposition.
- Collaborate with VA on survey-related communications.
Objective 2: Enhance member engagement through targeted materials and messaging
Supporting Actions
- Develop engagement materials tailored for:
- Heads of Service
- Students and Early Professionals (with SH)
- Create content that promotes BAA membership, committee work and volunteering, including:
- E-learning introductory content (with CM)
- Short videos and testimonials
- Posters and targeted promotional assets
- Liaise with CM/VA to showcase e-learning and highlight member benefits.
- Produce a promotional video highlighting the learning platform and wider member value.
Objective 3: Promoting audiology nationally
Supporting Actions

- Establish a committee of people to work on PAN
- Campaign for increased financial support for audiology courses and students
- Coordinate national campaigns to boost recruitment into audiology courses
- Promote the profession of audiology across the UK
About Rob
Originally from an NHS clinical background, I’ve been involved in the education of Audiology clinicians for much of my career. With a particular interest in Work Based Learning, I have had the privilege of working as a clinical educator/trainer for PTP and STP learners and as a Senior Lecturer. Currently I’m employed to develop a new Audiology Graduate Programme which supports individuals with the growth of their clinical, leadership and business knowledge and skills.
I have recently worked with other BAA members to set up a new group/committee which is looking at promoting audiology nationally with the aim to make our vocation more visible and attractive to young people considering Audiology as a career.
I have also been involved in several UK and overseas charities, supporting the development of and access to Audiology care in low- and middle-income settings.
