Board Lead for E-Learning
The E-Learning Board Lead is responsible for driving the strategic development and delivery of BAA’s online learning resources. This includes overseeing the launch and governance of the BAA E-Learning platform, with a phased rollout planned starting in Spring 2025. The role involves engaging members through surveys to identify CPD needs, expanding the E-Learning Committee to build capacity, and collaborating with experts to develop high-quality, evidence-based modules. The Board Lead ensures robust governance and quality assurance processes are in place for all content and works to align e-learning resources with national guidance and professional standards to support the ongoing development of audiologists.
BAA E-Learning Lead Objectives
Objective 1: Increase Engagement and Completion Rates Across the E‑learning Platform
Supporting Actions
- Strengthen the value and sustainability of the e‑learning programme by improving uptake, understanding user behaviour, and promoting the platform more effectively.
- Analyse user behaviour to understand where learners drop off, which modules have lower completion rates, and what barriers exist.
- Conduct a short user insight survey to gather qualitative feedback on motivation, barriers, and preferred formats.
- Develop a targeted promotion strategy to increase awareness and uptake across the profession.
- Introduce engagement nudges such as progress reminders
- Use analytics to demonstrate value and support the ongoing cost of the platform.
- To develop a promotional video to demo the BAA Learning Hub as a member benefit – – what’s on offer, quotes from members who have enjoyed particular modules – examples from different modules

Objective 2: Expand the E‑learning Offer with New Formats and Functions/ use of the platform across other committees
Supporting Actions
- Broaden the scope and utility of the BAA Learning Hub by introducing new content formats and exploring its potential as a central platform for wider professional development resources.
- Launch the Virtual Poster Hall as a new format for showcasing research, innovation, and QI projects.
- Assess feasibility of hosting HTS material (e.g. logbook, guidance) within the Learning Hub to support trainee development.
- Pilot new content types such as downloadable toolkits, peer‑learning prompts, and short audio explainers.
- Engage with Titus to confirm technical capacity, storage, and permissions for expanded formats.
- Evaluate impact and engagement across new formats to inform future development.
Objective 3: Develop E‑learning supporting the profession
Supporting Actions
- Work with BAA committees to develop new eLearning modules aligned to BAA annual objectives
- Co-produce e‑learning modules aligned with new or updated BSA guidance.
- Translate guidance into practical, scenario‑based learning to support consistent national implementation.
- Work with NHS Elect to synthesise learning from their QI and leadership work with participating trusts.
- Develop an e‑learning module that shares these insights widely across the audiology profession.
- Ensure content is contextualised for audiology practice, with practical examples and improvement tools.

Objective 4: Strengthen Technical and Operational Infrastructure

- Document platform administration processes to support continuity and reduce single points of failure.
- Develop a troubleshooting and user‑support guide for committee and admin teams.

- Provide quarterly activity and performance reports to the BAA Board, including analytics from the learning platform

About Catherine
I have been an NHS paediatric audiologist for most of my career, I am passionate about training and education coming from a family of teachers. I have worked with routine, complex, and highly complex children, paediatric hearing aids and ABR assessments, albeit not all simultaneously. Interspersed with this, I spent 12 years managing a team of newborn hearing screeners, which not only provided me with valuable leadership experience but also allowed me to engage in MSc level learning.
Presently, I hold the position of an enhanced paediatric audiologist at the Northern Care Alliance. I am responsible for delivery of an audiology-led aetiology pathway. I am also Development and Evaluation Manager within Vaccinations and Screening directorate in NHS England, working across several antenatal screening programmes including Newborn Hearing Screening. I am passionate about making the journey for the child and family from screening to diagnosis and intervention as good as it can possibly be, to enable the children we identify to have the life opportunities they rightfully deserve.
As in my work life, in my personal life I wear many hats, I am a mum, a wife, a daughter, a sister and an aunty to an amazing family and I wouldn’t be the person I am today without them. When I do manage some free time, its all about family time.
